DeFuniak Springs, Florida, February 1, 2010 – Nearly 20 local residents attended a “How to Start a Business” workshop held January 29, 2010 at the Comfort Inn & Suites in DeFuniak Springs. The Walton County Economic Development Alliance (Alliance) sponsored the workshop conducted by the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at the University of West Florida. Due to a partnership between the Alliance and SBDC, Walton County residents were able to attend the workshop at no cost.
“The Alliance wants to see more small businesses start in Walton County, and the ones we have here thrive and grow,” said Bill Arnett, Executive Director, Walton County Economic Development Alliance. “We will work with the Small Business Development Center to hold another workshop later this year, which will benefit existing business owners and those looking to start a business,” he added.
In addition to the workshops, the Alliance-SBDC partnership provides for Certified Business Analysts to conduct one-on-one counseling sessions twice per month in Walton County. Appointments are held the first and third Tuesday of each month from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at either the Alliance Office in DeFuniak Springs or the Walton Area Chamber of Commerce Office in Santa Rosa Beach. Interested parties should call the Alliance Office at 850.892.4859 to schedule an appointment.
